According to the Bac Lieu Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, the total pig herd in the province is about 207,000 heads. Currently, traders come to livestock households to buy live pigs with prices from 55,000 to 58,000 VND/kg. In particular, in some localities, traders buy up to 60,000 VND/kg, according to Bac Lieu newspaper. In fact, the current market shows that the price of animal feed more than doubled over the same period, almost every month, and even doubled in some months. This development caused the pig price to increase but did not keep up with the dancing momentum of the price of animal feed. In order to help farmers reduce the cost burden and make a profit after being sold, the functional sector needs a solution to reduce import taxes on some raw materials so that animal feed does not continue to increase in the near future. Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung – Director of the Provincial Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, said: “According to forecasts, in the coming time, the price of live pigs will continue to increase. Especially at the end of the year, the demand for pork is very high, so the price of live pigs will increase even more.”
