This issue we will remind some antibiotic program for prevent PRDC problems in sows and introduce a new suitable program for piglet since day born until growing to the fattening barn.

Piglet (Born-Wean)

1-2 days old: Ferrous Dextran (200mg/pig).

3 days old: Toltrazuril (oral) and Amoxycillin and Gentamicin.

5 days old: Toltrazuril (oral) and Amoxycillin and Gentamicin.

In Feed Medication program

Sows (Lactating sows)

• Tilmicosin 200 ppm/Tylosin 110 ppm/Tiamulin 100 ppm

• Amoxicillin 300-400 ppm

• Colistin 150-200 ppm

Piglet-Nursery pigs

• Tilmicosin 200 ppm/Tylosin 110 ppm/Tiamulin 100 ppm

• Amoxicillin 300-400 ppm

• Colistin 150-200 ppm

Starter-Grower pigs

• Tilmicosin 200 ppm/Tylosin 110 ppm/Tiamulin 100 ppm

• Amoxicillin 300-400 ppm

• Colistin 150-200 ppm

Antiviral solutions

• Vaccination is the most common approach to control viral diseases

• Many viral vaccines are available in market

• PRRS, PCV2, SF, AD, FMD

• Strain variation and maternal antibody interference must be carefully considered

• Vaccination program must be customized to specific farm

• Vaccination of pig prior to exposure to field strain virus can reduce number of positive pigs and lower levels of viremia in herd and result in decreased spread of infectious virus

Management solutions

• Colostrum management

– The miracle of herd immunity

– 12 hours after born

• Weaning age

– 21-28 days

• Sanitation or hygiene

– Surfactants

– Disinfectants

• AIAO (All In All Out)

– by barn

– by room

– by site

• Ventilation & temperature & air flow

– Fans

– Curtains

– Flooring

• Space density

– 1.2 m2/pig

• Feeder space

– Trough

– Automatic feeder

• Drinking water

– Nipple type & number

– Quality & Quantity

– Water flow rate

+ More susceptible for respiratory disease

• Air quality

– Ammonia gases-slow mucociliary escator

Nutritional solutions

• Raw materials

• Formula and requirements

• Vitamins and minerals premix

• Feed additives

• Enzyme

– NSP, Phytase

• Toxin binder/toxin deactivator

– Avoid damage of immune system

The PRDC problem is one of the most important problem that every farmer have to realize that they can cause many losses to the farm, but we can avoid them by a good management practice along with a good preventing antibiotics & vaccine programs.

Thank you for your following, see you once again in the next issue.
